Handwoven and handcrafted in the Western Highlands of Guatemala
Mozaique started its journey in Guatemala in 2018 and has spent more than a year exploring partnerships with different groups of masters weavers, traveling the country to learn about different local weaving traditions and learning from a wide range of local stakeholders, while also understanding the customers' interests.
In 2020, we established our own collective in the San Pedro Sacatepechez region, Quetzaltenango, bringing together around 20 master weavers from some of the surrounding villages. The same year, we launched GuaTela - our collection of cotton tea and hand towels, designed by our team and inspired by the colors traditionally used by our partners. The artisans work from home and they are paid upfront for their products. Each towel is individually handwoven using traditionally human powered foot looms.
We have worked with our partners to improve quality control, increase supply chain transparency and reduce textile waste by rethinking the weaving process.
